New Avon Store

March 1st marks the first time that we opened our doors to the public in our fabulous new store in Avon, Ohio. While the outdoor construction is not quite finished, all will be ready for our Grand Opening celebration on April 14th, 2007.

The Avon store was the former site of the Good Times fun park. The park was purchased in mid-September of 2006, and renovations and construction proceeded at a rapid pace.

Two buildings original to the Good Times park remain. These octagonal buildings house the Home Accents and Lawn & Garden departments, and feature high ceilings and NatureStone™ flooring. These buildings will also be air-conditioned during hot summer months.

A greenhouse structure to the east of the octagons also has a NatureStone floor and houses tropical house plants as well as patio furniture. Garden accessories, pottery, statuary, fountains, trellises and more will be displayed under covered shopping space behind the buildings. Annuals and perennials are displayed under Cravo™ gutter-connect greenhouses with retractable roofs and roll-up sides. This allows shoppers the luxury of enjoying beautiful weather under the sky, with the convenience of covered shopping during inclement weather.

The architectural crown of the Avon store is the Thermoflor™ structure, an arcade-like avenue 50 feet wide and 420 feet long. This "Garden Street" features a mixture of colorful plants and garden accessories, with ready access to live flowers, trees and shrubs. Several top European garden centers feature Thermoflor structures, but the Avon store has the first of its kind built in North America.

Interstate 90 runs directly behind the store, and overlooks the selection of trees and shrubs in the nursery. A green-tinted glass structure facing the highway partially covers the nursery area and completes the $7 million facility.

With over a quarter-million square feet of shopping space, and more than 95% of it under cover, the Avon Petitti Garden Center is on the cutting edge of garden centers in the world. In 2006, A.J. Petitti was named Young Retailer of the Year by Green Profit, an industry magazine printed by Ball Publishing. Today's Garden Center, published by Meister Media, named Petitti Garden Centers the National Revolutionary Retailer of 2007. The February 2007 issue announcing the distinction features Angelo Petitti and his son A.J. in front of one of the distinctive octagonal buildings at the Avon store.

Some photos from the construction period give an idea of the scope of this project.

A 300-car parking lot and a grand entrance are the first impressions shoppers have of the new facility.

The interior of the Home Accents octagonal building has a dramatic high ceiling and serves as a perfect setting for indoor and outdoor decorating ideas.

Workers prepare to add glass to the greenhouse that shelters tropical house plants and patio furniture. The NatureStone floor and elegant architecture provides a comfortable garden experience even in winter.

Cravo gutter-connect greenhouses with retractable roofs went up in January. The space down the middle is the site of the Thermoflor structure housing Garden Street.
